The Zebra DS8208 is the corded DS82 Series scanner for high-volume point of sale, self-checkout, returns, loyalty, inventory, receiving and other data-capture workflows. Zebra positions it as the corded replacement for the DS8108, adding a 2 MP optical system and capacitive multi-function button while retaining a host-powered workstation design.
PRZM Intelligent Imaging captures traditional 1D codes, 2D symbols, GS1 Digital Link, Digimarc and OCR data with speed and accuracy. The standard DS8208 is a barcode model; integrated RFID belongs only to the separate DS8208-R configuration and is not claimed for this page.
Meet the Zebra DS8208 as part of the future-ready DS82 Series.
Zebra's current U.S. package listing includes:
Configuration note: Package contents may vary with the purchased configuration.
PRZM Intelligent Imaging and the 2 MP optical system decode challenging barcodes with high speed, precision and motion tolerance. In optimized mode the scanner handles 13 mil UPC movement up to 160 inches per second handheld and 40 inches per second hands-free.
One trigger pull captures both conventional 1D UPC and emerging 2D GS1 Digital Link codes. The scanner also supports common 2D symbologies, Digimarc, OCR-A, OCR-B, MICR and US currency recognition for broader workflows.
The working range reaches about 28 inches for 13 mil UPC and 19 inches for 20 mil QR Code. Associates can capture merchandise at the bottom of a cart without leaving the workstation.
The haptic multi-function button acts as a secondary trigger that can be assigned to a task such as switching between point-of-sale and returns applications. It gives associates a direct workflow control without adding another device or screen step.
The 2 MP sensor can support third-party vision applications for real-time item recognition and verification. These applications can streamline transactions and help address self-checkout exceptions and shrink as vision workflows mature.
IP52 sealing protects against dust and spills, while a recessed scan window helps resist smudges, scratches and dirt. The scanner meets a 10-foot MIL drop specification, is designed for 54 drops at 6 feet and survives 2,000 tumbles to reduce repair and replacement downtime.
Infrared sensing activates the two warm-white illumination LEDs only when an object is detected in presentation mode. Hands-free users avoid constant bright light, and the workstation consumes less power when no item is present.
IoT Connector automates real-time scanner data collection and routes it to a selected IoT endpoint. Operations teams can analyze fleet health, use and performance without building a separate collection layer.
Zebra DNA combines firmware, applications and utilities for deployment, management, visibility and optimization. 123Scan simplifies configuration and rollout, while remote-management and analytics tools help keep a distributed fleet current and available.
Direct Decode Indicator, front and rear LEDs, adjustable audio, haptic decode feedback and the multi-function button's haptics provide several confirmation modes. Workers can recognize a successful capture in noisy, quiet or visually busy environments.
FIPS 140-3 certification supports deployments with defined security requirements. Compatibility with Checkpoint EAS deactivation can coordinate barcode capture and loss-prevention workflows at the checkout.
The DS8208 connects through USB or RS232 and supports more than 90 international keyboard layouts. It operates from host power, so cordless-only claims such as Bluetooth, contactless charging, Virtual Tether, batteries and PowerCap do not apply.
The DS8208 exports Bitmap, JPEG and TIFF images and delivers 140 PPI on an 11 x 8.5-inch document captured from 11.8 inches away. This extends the device beyond barcode decoding when an application needs document or image evidence.
The optical system resolves Code 39 and Code 128 down to 3 mil and Data Matrix and QR Code down to 5 mil. The range remains dependent on symbol size, print quality, contrast and ambient light.
Retail uses include POS, self-checkout, BOPIS/BOPAC, loyalty and coupon redemption, backroom receiving, real-time item inventory and loss prevention. The same barcode model supports hospitality check-in and ticketing, transportation shipping, picking and tracking, plus light-manufacturing product tracking, WIP and process control.
This page covers the standard corded DS8208 with a five-year warranty. RFID is limited to DS8208-R models, and healthcare cleaning, housing and antimicrobial claims belong to DS8208-HC rather than this general-purpose unit.
