The cordless Zebra DS4678 gives retail associates the freedom to capture product labels, mobile coupons and loyalty IDs, tickets, inventory labels, and receiving data away from the host. Its 1D/2D imager also supports DotCode, dotted DataMatrix through cellophane, wide carton codes, tiny high-density symbols, imaging, and OCR.
An 800 MHz processor, 1280 x 800 sensor, and PRZM Intelligent Imaging improve first-pass reads on difficult labels. Standard-range, high-density, driver's-license, and EAS-capable configurations let buyers select the right DS4678 without assuming every feature is present on every model.

The standard package includes:
Configuration note: The cradle, interface cable, and power supply are separate unless explicitly included with the selected kit.
The DS4678 reads conventional 1D and 2D labels along with coupons, loyalty IDs, and tickets on mobile screens. Its rear-mounted scan engine creates a broad field of view for wide package and carton barcodes, while DotCode and dotted DataMatrix support specialized product-marking workflows.
SR and DL configurations read a typical 13 mil UPC from contact to 28 inches and a 20 mil QR code out to 17.5 inches. HD and HL configurations trade some long-range reach for finer resolution, reading down to 2 mil Code 39 and 4 mil DataMatrix; their typical 13 mil UPC range extends to 18 inches.
PRZM Intelligent Imaging works with the megapixel sensor and 800 MHz processor to improve decoding before data reaches the host. A 15% minimum print-contrast rating and broad pitch, skew, and roll tolerance support difficult, damaged, low-contrast, and awkwardly positioned labels with fewer retries.
IP52 sealing, double-sealed optics, and a recessed scan window help protect the scanner from dust, spills, smudges, and scratches. The housing is designed for multiple 6-foot drops to concrete and 2,000 tumbles in a 1.5-foot tumbler, supporting frequent mobile use throughout a store.
The DS4678 supports checkout, mobile coupon and loyalty scanning, age verification, auxiliary scanning, receiving, inventory, drive-thru, and event or admission ticketing. Its IP52 rating and 32 to 122 degree Fahrenheit operating range are intended for active indoor work areas, not outdoor exposure or wash-down use.
The optional presentation cradle turns the DS4678 into a hands-free scanner while keeping the battery charging during use. Associates can present items at the counter, then lift the scanner for a bulky product or an inventory label without changing equipment.
Good-decode LEDs, rear-view LEDs, an adjustable beeper, and Direct Decode Indicator confirm a successful read. Direct Decode Indicator projects illumination onto the decoded barcode, giving associates an immediate visual cue when ambient noise makes the beeper harder to hear.
Label Parse+ can capture and parse GS1 fields such as expiration date, lot number, and manufacture date. Sending structured data instead of an unprocessed symbol can reduce manual entry in receiving, inventory, and compliance workflows.
Multi-Code Data Formatting reads several barcodes with one trigger pull, then transmits only the required values in the order an application expects.
Preferred Symbol selects a designated barcode when several symbols appear together, reducing the need to cover unwanted labels.
Checkpoint EAS deactivation is limited to compatible HD and HL configurations and requires the appropriate EAS environment; it is not a feature of every DS4678.
The DS4678 supports OCR for collecting text from identification cards and travel documents that may not contain barcodes.
DS4678-DL and DS4678-HL configurations add U.S. driver's-license parsing for age verification, loyalty enrollment, and credit applications.
Bluetooth 5.2 with BLE supports Serial Port and HID profiles, with Class 1 range rated up to 330 feet and Class 2 range up to 33 feet under suitable conditions. Adjustable radio power lets administrators reduce coverage in steps, helping keep the scanner inside the intended work area and limit unnecessary interference.
The 2,500 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated for 50,000 scans at one scan per second and supports more than 13 hours of continuous use. Asset reporting exposes battery information to supported management tools, which can help teams identify aging packs before they interrupt a shift.
From empty, the battery reaches full charge in about 2 hours 15 minutes with external 12V power, 4 hours 30 minutes with external 5V, 3 hours over BC1.2 USB, or 7 hours 45 minutes over standard USB. These choices let buyers balance installation simplicity against turnaround time.
The standard cradle can sit on a desktop, mount on a wall, or fit into a checkout counter. It stores, charges, and communicates with the scanner, giving associates a defined return point between cordless tasks.
Standard and presentation cradles are designed for cross-compatibility with Zebra DS8100 Series cordless scanners. Connect+ Contact technology uses a corrosion-resistant charging design intended to maintain reliable electrical contact over repeated insertions.
Virtual Tether can alert when a scanner moves beyond a defined range or is not returned to its cradle, reducing misplaced-device time.
Wi-Fi Friendly Mode manages Bluetooth behavior to help prevent scanner traffic from disrupting the store's wireless LAN.
The DS4678 is preconfigured for typical scanning tasks, and auto-host detect cables select the appropriate interface. USB, RS232, Keyboard Wedge, and TGCS (IBM) 46XX support plus more than 90 international keyboard layouts fit a broad range of POS and business systems.
123Scan can set parameters, update firmware, display decoded data, and print reports, with deployment settings captured in a single programming barcode.
IoT Connector can route scanner-event data to an IoT endpoint for analysis and real-time action.
Scanner Management Service queries asset information and manages supported devices remotely, while Remote Diagnostics can provide the device data needed to troubleshoot scanner and battery issues.
Zebra DNA tools cover setup, data formatting, application integration, diagnostics, remote management, and optimization. Zebra's Scanner SDK supplies drivers, test tools, documentation, and sample code for custom applications.
