Today we're taking a look at Opticon's OPN3002i Bluetooth Barcode scanner.

This is a barcode scanner intended for your mobile devices so any mobile or Bluetooth compatible devices

Android devices, iOS devices like your iPad and your iPod.

It is a 2d imager

which means it will scan 2D barcodes and 1D barcodes. It will also scan off of mobile devices.

It has a 33 foot range, is very easy to set up which I will show in just a bit 

and overall is one of the most cost effective solutions for 2D Bluetooth barcode scanners.

Really quickly I'm going to show you how to pair the Bluetooth scanner to your mobile device.

So you want to turn on your Bluetooth settings

and then hold down the trigger button for about five seconds.

The LED light is going to start flashing blue and you can tell that it is ready to connect.

In this case it has automatically connected which is great, but sometimes you can also just click on the device and it will connect it too.

One of the challenges with mobile barcode scanners is getting the onscreen keyboard to display 

when the scanner is hooked up.

It thinks that the scanner is a keyboard and so it is not going to show the onscreen keyboard.

Opticon has made their scanner get around that

by creating a button that you just push 

and it brings up the onscreen keyboard.

So now I can type in "hi" and then push the button again and go back to scanning my barcodes.

You can configure the scanner to run in HID or Serial protocol. 

Right now it is in HID and that will allow us to scan directly into the note.

So, 2D scanner... can scan 1D barcodes as well as 

your 2D barcodes, 

QR codes, no trouble.

It is a 2D imager so you should be able to scan in bright light.

Its got a 5 foot drop spec so you should be able to drop it a couple times, it should be okay.

Its got an IP42 seal to prevent dust from getting inside, no all dust but like dirt isn't going to get inside your scanner

and it can scan from about 2 inches, 

2 inches on regular UPCS to about 8 inches, right about there.

So that was the quick review of the Opticon OPN3002i Bluetooth barcode scanner.

As you can see this is your keyboard button in iOS mode and this is your trigger button.

It's able to scan 2D barcodes. It's a great choice for small retail inventory managment, patient side data capture or other mobile data collection applications.

We recommend using it in HID mode because that is simply the easiest but you can do some custom development for the Serial or the Apple ports.
